The key element of our concepts was to celebrate Dutch culture. In other words, how it feels to be face-to-face with works that inspire, encourage critical thought and generate continuous debate. We invited contemporary Dutch artists from various disciplines to celebrate, describe and bring an ode to their favourite works. Wende Snijders sang about a work by Lucio Fontana and Bas Koster celebrated a work by Matisse. We also developed a new version of the choreography which ballet dancer and choreographer Hans van Maanen created for a performance on the steps of the Stedelijk in 1964. Queen Beatrix officially opened the event earlier that afternoon.
