A special day for Vrumona in Fort Voordorp, a water-rich environment close to the source, under the inspiring leadership of Tooske Ragas. A commercial kick-off with everyone together, from marketing to sales to all the supply staff. A challenge packed with content and full of plenary sessions, break-outs, brand workshops, the 'soft drinks quiz', a sugar lecture and a people workshop. There was also an unexpected break outside which involved making a creative waterway with Vrumona material such as PET bottles, cardboard and stickers, as well as some amusing elements such as bathing caps and dominoes. Like other years Kingcanary was responsible for the entire production.

Tele2 IoT Talks

Business to business / Tele2 IoT Talks

Tele2 brought together 20 exhibitors and a total of 300 partners and customers at the IoT Talks. An event where the focus was entirely on sharing knowledge and discussing the ever-growing landscape for the Internet-of-Things. An inspiring day filled with plenary presentations and meetings with different players within the industry at the Galgenwaard football stadium in Utrecht. Kingcanary was responsible for the entire production.

Heineken Commerce Week

Business to business / Heineken Commerce Week

In Amsterdam’s Central Markthal, we made history. The 289 Heineken brands and the global senior management of this multinational met for a three-day session. New strategies and plans for the years ahead were presented with real dedication. All the stands and food outlets were presented against a superbly stark backdrop featuring containers and a spectacular Hei-Line, reminiscent of New York’s High Line. Kingcanary was responsible for the entire production: from concept through to realisation, and from plenary presentations to stands and video reports. The event ended with a spectacular party at Sugarcity.

This is all about presenting the highlights of the upcoming season on TV. In close consultation with the management at NPO, the Netherlands’ first national TV station, Kingcanary has coordinated the new season programming press launch for the last eight years. As well as the presentation, we also organised the annual première dinner. This evening is when the NPO provides a sneak preview of upcoming programming for presenters, TV producers, broadcasters and interested parties from the worlds of politics, science and academia, culture and the media.

Nike Sales

Miami, Florida: 1200 staff from Nike international sales departments met to discuss results and gear up for the new season. The event featured slick shows, impressive acts, presentations and some great product launches. We devised, developed and produced the shows for Women’s, Running, Sportswear, Football and Basketball.

For the Excelerators’ Meeting, Kingcanary brought together 12 VimpelCom countries in Dubai. We managed the entire event, where the leadership team presented the new strategy to all of the business incubators. The visualisation and editorial work was quite a challenge, but that is happily something we relish.

KLM Air France Station managers Day

Business to business / KLM Air France Station managers Day

At KLM Air France there are 300 station managers who are responsible for the aircraft turnaround process at airports. All of them met up at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. Kingcanary took care of all the content and dressed the event. This highly successful day featured a superb opening by comedy team Boom Chicago and a range of creative workshops.

Heineken H41 perslancering

For the first time in 125 years, a new beer has been launched under the Heineken brand: H41. H41 is the latitude in Patagonia where the yeast used to brew this beer was discovered. At its press launch, arriving guests were shown a chronicle of Heineken’s history on screen. After a plenary presentation and tasting session, the guests returned to the reception area. It had been transformed into an H41 world, with a chilled H41 ready-and-waiting for everyone.

Kingcanary organised The House of Beauty, a beauty event at Amsterdam’s historic commodity exchange building Beurs van Berlage. A team of 150 staff from Estée Lauder devoted their time and expertise to the event. Consumers had an opportunity to pay for a beauty treatment. We were responsible for the concept, all of the stands, decoration and organisation. All of the event’s proceeds went to the Pink Ribbon Foundation for research into breast cancer.

Nike Womens

Brand experience / Nike Womens

For Nike Women’s, we created a cool art gallery, offering the press a sneak preview of the new collection. It was attended by the trendiest international vloggers and famous athletes Anna Chicherova, Naz Aydemir and Anna Lewandowska. As well as a lavish lunch and boat trip on the Bosporus, this two-day event in Istanbul featured workout sessions and superb meals at various historic locations.

For Heineken Nederland, Kingcanary developed a consumer activation campaign at the Dance Valley Festival site. The theme of ‘refreshing sounds’ was presented in an eye-catching and high-impact set of Heineken swimming pools, where festivalgoers could cool off. The promotional women’s superb outfits even featured jewellery made from Heineken beer tops.

Ali B ‘Concert zonder naam’

TV Events / Ali B ‘Concert with no name’

In the TV hit ‘Ali B op Volle Toeren’ rappers and ‘golden oldies’ play remakes of their songs to each other. Kingcanary collaborated with Tuvalu and SPEC in organising the ‘Concert with no name’, not only bringing together the worlds of Dutch popular song and rap, but also enabling fans from these two different worlds to meet each other. The four TV episodes featured the superb show at Paradiso and included backstage footage of performers’ experiences as they prepared.

For a home viewing audience of 1.5 million and an auditorium packed with the advertising industry elite, we have been responsible for the production of the STER Gouden Loeki advertising awards a full four times. This is a live broadcast with a spectacular start and the awarding of the Netherlands’ best TV advert of the year. We created video content about the makers of the adverts, filming some crazy reports and example cases in Japan, China and the US, allon subjects of interest both to viewers and advert creators/advertisers. Of course, we also arranged the after-party for the guests.

KRO-NCRV Voor wie steek jij een kaarsje op?

TV Events / KRO-NCRV Lighting a candle

Production company KRO-NCRV keeps the memory of our loved ones alive. Their programme Voor wie steek jij een kaarsje op? (For whom will you light a candle?) is dedicated to the memory of loved ones we lost. We celebrate their lives and enable them to live on through the stories and music of famous Dutch artistes. Since the programme started, Kingcanary has handled the TV direction and been responsible for the production of the music, the wall of candles and the performers.

To mark the Dutch kingdom’s bicentenary, Kingcanary produced this special Prinsjesdag concert in the Dr. Anton Philipszaal in The Hague. The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra played classical and popular music from the reigns of each of the monarchs of the last two centuries. The programme also featured a range of interviews and reports. We took care of production and editorial work for the entire concept and TV broadcast, on behalf of the Municipality of The Hague, the Philharmonic Orchestra and AVROTROS. The concert was presented by AVROTROS presenter Art Rooijakkers.

Pink Ribbon Award Gala

TV Events / Pink Ribbon Award Gala

Estée Lauder commissioned Kingcanary to produce the Pink Ribbon Award Gala, highlighting the issue of breast cancer. Through a range of portraits and the annual photo competition, the personal stories of women with breast cancer took centre stage. Well-known Dutch performers accompanied by the Fluitsma & Van Tijn band also sang songs that had particular resonance for the women. The guests, Dutch celebrities one and all, listened in awe to the often extremely moving stories. Over the years, we have worked on the TV broadcast of this event with broadcasters AVROTROS and later NET 5. 
 
Every year, to mark the start of breast cancer month, landmarks across the world are lit up in pink. Over time, these landmarks have transformed into symbols of hope. As part of the worldwide Global Landmarks Illumination Initiative, Kingcanary has lit up a total of seven iconic buildings in pink: Beurs van Berlage, the Westertoren, Eye Amsterdam, Theater Carre, The Amsterdam Mayor’s official residence, the Stedelijk Museum and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

For Slachtofferhulp Nederland we organised a symposium on victims’ rights in practice at the Fabrique in Maarssen. Presented by Sarah Meuleman the day was devoted to new developments in the specialist field of legal support, including supporting victims in court hearings, seeking redress and mediation in court cases, and victims appearing as witnesses. These were all subjects covered in the plenary sessions and workshops.

Even behind the scenes, many sponsors and professional partners from the events and TV sector provided their services for free. The concert and accompanying TV broadcast in partnership with Media Luna both proved a resounding success.

Social engagement events / TNT Walk the World

Walk the World, an initiative of the World Food Programme, TNT, Unilever and DSM, is a worldwide sponsored walk event organised to highlight the problem of famine in the world. Thousands of people in 80 countries take part in this 5 km walk. In developing countries, this is the average distance a child needs to walk to school. Kingcanary organised this solidarity walk in Scheveningen and The Hague. As many as 4,000 employees from TNT, Unilever and DSM from across the country took part in the walk with their families. With Ambassador Arie Boomsma leading the way, they walked across the beach and through the dunes. The programme on stage featured such celebrities as Roel van Velzen, Alain Clark, Jim and Berget Lewis.

Vondelpark Festival

Public Events / Vondelpark Festival

Amsterdam’s Vondelpark was 150 years old, a fact celebrated by around 50,000 people at a major festival in this famous city park. Assisted by 200 volunteers, organisations and businesses associated with Vondelpark, Kingcanary developed a superb programme featuring concerts, guided tours, a boot camp, a racing course for dogs, a picnic, a play area, games and pie-making for children. There was something to please everyone. The festival ended with Dutch singer Waylon who sang an ode at the foot of the statue of Vondel, who gave his name to the park.

‘Helemaal Kerst met Jumbo‘ (The complete Christmas with Jumbo) by Jumbo and Alfred International won the 'Ster Gouden Loeki' prize for the best TV commercial of 2016! Kingcanary was responsible for the content and production of the award show. Sophie Hilbrand was the presenter at the Westergas Theater and the line-up was full of interesting speakers such as Frank Volmer (director of STER), Lode Schaeffer (advertising agency INDIE) and Sander van der Pavert (Lucky TV). The guests were also given an exclusive showing of the new Heineken commercial. Afterwards there were, of course, celebratory drinks and a walking dinner.

The production company surprised its employees this year with a fantastic over-the-top Glow & Shine Christmas Party in Hotel Arena. It featured a band, dj and a wealth of entertainment. In the Masters of Beauty stand, alias the Victor & Rolf of any party, guests were transformed into real red carpet stars. In the Coupe du Compress workshop, compressors were used to blow the guests' hair into all kinds of amazing styles. After that everybody took their time to pose for the cameras in a fantastic winter fairytale scene created by events organisation Paardenkracht.

Speciale Event / Opening of W Hotel & MR PORTER

The official opening party for hotel W Amsterdam and the restaurant upstairs MR PORTER was attended by all kinds of celebrities. They ranged from Doutzen Kroes and Lieke van Lexmond to Ryan Marciano & Sunnery James and Viktor & Rolf. With all these celebrities from the worlds of fashion, music and art, W Amsterdam certainly lived up to its reputation. Everything was just right – attractive people, delicious cocktails, plenty of press, outstanding catering and great music! Around 1,000 guests attended the party. We staged this spectacular event in partnership with Treat Amsterdam.

The employees at Heineken just love exuberant parties and that suits us just fine. For the Commerce department’s Christmas party, we pulled out all the stops. The theme was ‘A Bad hair day at Christmas’ and the hairdressers from ‘Coupe Du Compress’ put their dryers into action to blow every type of hair to the next level. The Heineken CEO gave his speech completely transformed into Scrooge. Christmas elves on roller skates distributed gifts, there was a DJ and singer, a Paardenkracht photobooth scene and snow machines.

Edison Pop

Special Events / Edison Pop

Edison Pop is the Netherlands’ most exclusive pop event, where everyone from the music business just has to be seen. These awards for ‘sound of exceptional quality’ started in 1960. In partnership with Treat Amsterdam, Kingcanary has been developing a new Edison Pop in the last few years. The Netherlands’ oldest musical awards have now become the hottest ticket in town – packed with upmarket tuxedos and heels to die for. It now also features lots of new names, including Chef’s Special, Jett Rebel, Kensington, Lil’ Kleine and Kenny B.

Opening Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Special Events / Opening Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

After the official opening by Queen Beatrix, the museum was not only full of art, but a unique collection of Dutch artistes as well. There were performances by vocalist Wende Snijders and hip-hop/R&B group Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, while mezzo soprano Tania Kross teamed up with DJ Kypski and the Matangi String Quartet just for the occasion. An amazing ballet took place on the old staircase and there were discussions of art and poetry readings. The escalator regularly transformed into a moving catwalk featuring models in creations designed by Bas Kosters.

Janine also answers to Sjaan, loves computer games and has an incredible fetish for John Deere tractors.

Martijn van der Werff

Martijn is from Brabant, but prouder of the fact that he has lived in Lelystad. After graduating from Maastricht Hotel Management School he quickly moved into events. He was initially at Brandevents, before spending years as a freelancer. He has incredible experience: in corporate events, concerts and technical productions. He is an outstanding technical producer, making content really stand out. He ensures that projects stay manageable, overseeing complex productions. Martijn cycles so fast that he can keep up with Olympic cyclist Tom Dumoulin and still have a smile on his face.

Marc Pos

Marc directs the total experience, translating the vibe of the moment into a range of media. He is a connoisseur and fan of the moment. Everything he does has to be unforgettable. He is known for his stand-up meetings and his director’s role in TV programmes that include Gouden Televizierring, Prinsengrachtconcert, Uitmarkt, Hofvijverconcert, Idols and the National IQ Test. His sense of timing and eye for detail make him a creative artist to reckon with. He is also a great travel planner – Lonely Planet fades in comparison.

Nicole Hurkmans

Nicole is always there when needed but never intrusive. As captain of the Kingcanary ship, she ensures business runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis, keeping a sharp eye on all budgets. Her strength is her perfectionism. She launched Kingcanary in 2006 and her son was born within a year. She always arrives early at the office, cycles in all weather, loves camping and eats unbelievably healthily.

Tanja was born in Preston Palace, then a hospital, but now the leading entertainment centre in Almelo. After working in the Johma Salades marketing department, she joined Studio Room/LINDA. and has been an amazingly loyal canary for nine years. Tanja is our link between content and technology. She converts plans and ideas into content to match the event. In a former life, she was a talented skater and ballroom dancer and now she’s ‘queen of the games’.

She is so American! After an internship at the Atlanta Olympic Games, she stayed in the USA for the next 12 years. At the five-star hotel chain The Ritz-Carlton, Claire soon found her way to the Conference & Events department. Back home in the Netherlands, she started work at a conference and events firm and has been a canary for five years now. Claire always keeps a close eye on the bigger picture and ensures relationships with customers and suppliers run smoothly. However even she gets tired occasionally of her super powers and all the other things she piles on to her plate on a daily basis. She is a fanatical soccer mom and now lives in Badhoevedorp.

Queen of the Kingcanary office! Although she calls herself the printer queen, she is much more than that. At events, she is based in the production office, organising everything. She also assists in styling presenters, dancers and artistes. Sharda always looks impeccable. Born in Paramaribo, with her two children and 32 sisters, she is a real family woman. Her impending 40th birthday this year is causing her some queasiness, but since she spends every hour not at work in the gym, it will all work itself out.

Mette started in recording and welcoming guests, but now manages entire projects, not that you would realise it. Everything seems to run so smoothly. Always in the know when it comes to the hippest places in Amsterdam, Mette can certainly organise a party. Mette is a truly loyal canary and recently gained a double-barrelled name. Oh, and she’s also fanatical about staplers.

De kanaries / Esmee Nieuwenhuis – Head of Productions

Our production star! Esmee has worked as an executive producer in the theatre sector for almost 15 years. She learned her craft at the World Christmas Circus, at Soldaat van Oranje and Stage Entertainment. Whatever the size of the production, nothing and nobody makes her lose her cool! We have certainly tried it, but everything runs with minimum stress and a great deal of humour. Esmee is involved in Blendle and has lived in Amsterdam’s best postcode area for years.

Irma Almekinders

De kanaries / Irma Almekinders – Finance Manager

Irma balances the books at Kingcanary. She’s an expert at highlighting issues, advising and reporting. Armed with her reading glasses, she checks all the figures, being rigorous but always fair. After spending several years as an accountant, she became financial director of the Amsterdam Convention Factory in 2000 and then worked on a project basis. A real genius with figures, she has been our stabilising factor on Tuesdays since 2012. Irma has green fingers and is married to the nicest man in the world with a gardening company.

Milou became canary of the day when, at her very first event, she lifted hundreds of plants upstairs without batting an eyelid. She is good at setting priorities, keeping an overview and collaborating. Milou really loved the Heineken Commerce Week! A massive and really cool event to work on. She has also worked as events manager at Club Zand. Milou lives in Castricum and can often be found on the beach sporting her tan, to the envy of us all. Milou suffers from an addiction to pepernoten, a popular Christmas treat, from August until February.

Sjoerd, aka the Wikipedia of Kingcanary, is inquisitive and bloody-minded and often struggles to accept other people’s word. So he looks everything up and has become a tremendous source of knowledge on the stupidest of subjects. Sjoerd creates all the visuals devised at Kingcanary, ranging from huge banners to a menu. His strength as a graphic designer is his sense of the abstract, translating complex narratives into clear graphical forms, with a clear-cut hierarchy.

Juliette Verkerk

De kanaries / Juliette Verkerk – Creative Strategist

Experience marketing, brand activation, events and PR stunts –Juul is all about concepts full of impact and eye-catching content. Every single day, she openly challenges the world around her. Juul is a real advertising diva, likes to work fast and loves deadlines, but hates pushiness, which is what brought her to Kingcanary. She lives in an Amsterdam Melrose Place, just behind a tennis club, but has never touched a racket. Her youngest pride and joy is named after Dutch performer Ramses Shaffy.
